BRAVO ZULU to:
This web site is dedicated to the Men and Women of the Royal Canadian Navy from 1910 to 1968. The majority of the site relates to the Honours and Awards of World War Two with some details on World War One, Korea, the post-war era and Canadians in the Royal Navy prior to World War One. Awards and citations to the Merchant Navy are also included.
I had a headstart on the Naval Awards as I had compiled a book in 1992 titled "Royal Canadian Navy - Honours, Decorations and Medal 1910 - 1968". Also, Edward Paquette and Charles Bainbridge had compiled the citations to the Honours and Awards of the Royal Canadian Navy in their book "Honours and Awards - Canadian Naval Forces World War II" in 1986. Only 500 of these excellent books were produced but it formed the basis for this compilation of the WW2 honours. I am indebted to Ed Paquette and Chuck Bainbridge for having a template to work with.
What was missing in information about the Royal Canadian Navy was a detailed book on the actions involving RCN Ships. This was resolved in 1996 when Fraser McKee and Robert Darlington published their excellent book, "The Canadian Naval Chronicle 1939-1945". It detailed all the actions in which the RCN sunk submarines and other ships and also actions in which RCN ships were sunk. Now there was a book connect the citations to what the individual's ship did.
The book "The Ships of Canada's Naval Forces 1910 - 1993" by Ken Macpherson and John Burgess was used for looking up the Commanding Officers of the ships and for details on the ships noted in the citations. I undoubtedly missed some of the ships that the recipients commanded and I would appreciate readers letting me know of commands that I missed.
Details on the careers of naval aviator and those who rose to Commodore and above came from the British Columbia Maritime Museum's two excellent book on these topics by John MacFarlane and Robbie Hughes.
The World War Two citations are broken up into individual letters to make it easier to look up a citation. The title RCN Honours WW2 lists all the awards in alphabetical order. The Korea section has the awards listed with the citations following as does the post-war awards. The WW1 and pre-WW1 sections list the awards and then biographies and citations. The Merchant Marine listings also have the list of the awards in alphabetical order followed by the citations.
On the Air Force Association Website, Hugh Halliday has compiled all the Honours to the RCAF (WW2, 1935, Korea, post-war) and to Canadians in the RFC/RAF/RNAS in WW1. The citations to Canadians in the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) for WW1 can be found at that site so I have not included those citations here. Hugh also contributed to the detail in the Merchant Navy awards.
Jack Arrowsmith went through the Navy Lists and provided me with the detail you see under most of the recipients of WW2 awards. This was a major task and I greatly appreciate the work he did.
I would very much like to improve upon this production. Anybody having additional information on any of the recipients or correction, please write to me at:

The following list of books were consulted for details on the citations and these are noted in the citation for those interested in looking up the full story.
